The skill and training required to provide high quality aesthetic treatments cannot be overstated. At Sage & Needle, we live and breathe quality; which is why we will only ever employ the best aesthetics professionals we can find.

ALISON MCCALL

PA-C and Founder of Sage & Needle

Alison is a rare find in the aesthetics world. We don’t have to fluff up her resume. She has been working as a plastic surgery PA-C since 2018 and when she isn’t providing aesthetics procedures for Sage & Needle, you can find her in the operating room where she performs and first assists on a wide variety of plastic surgery procedures including complex breast reconstruction, mommy makeovers, breast augmentation, face lifts, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgeries and many more. Having extensive hands-on experience with facial plastic surgery adds a vast depth of knowledge when it comes to understanding facial anatomy. The insight and skill Alison has gained from doing major plastic surgery is akin to asking Aaron Rodgers to play in your flag football league. Or Michael Phelps to be your lifeguard. Maybe Beyonce singing you happy birthday? Pick your analogy – you are in good hands.

Alison originally trained as a Radiation Therapist at the University of Chicago Hospital where she treated cancer patients with ionizing radiation. She loved helping patients who were going through some of the most challenging times of their lives. Wanting to do more, she decided to go back to school where she earned her master’s degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science to become a Physician Associate (formerly Physician Assistant). She was able to leverage her experience treating breast cancer patients to become a plastic surgeon PA where a large portion of her patients were breast cancer patients undergoing breast reconstruction surgery. There may not be another PA in the country that has Alison’s unique breadth of knowledge across multiple medical fields.

During the peak of the pandemic, Alison used her suturing skills from the operating room to sew cloth masks that she sold to friends and family for which she donated to various charities. Alison’s mask of choice was one she made with the Green Bay Packers logo printed all over it (the Aaron Rodgers reference from earlier is starting to make sense). She has also been experimenting with designing and sewing her own dresses!

“The biggest trait I try to apply when interacting with any of my patients, surgical or non-surgical, is empathy. We all want to be heard and understood and I think it’s essential to truly listen to what the patient's concerns are. I want to make everyone feel like the best version of themselves and even if I help make small improvements for someone, that’s a victory to me.”

Ross

Business Manager and Founder of Sage & Needle

Someone has to do the paperwork, balance the books, and write these incredible bios. Ross’ background is in radiation oncology. He received his Bachelor of Science degree as a radiation therapist in 2008. He worked for 5 years treating cancer patients before going back to school to get his Master’s Degree in medical dosimetry. Dosimetrists are the subspecialty in radiation oncology that create 3D plans that the patients are treated with. Dosimetry has a lot of the same skill sets as an engineer; think AutoCAD but for the human body. After working as a Dosimetrist for 5 years he decided to pursue his MBA at UCSD’s Rady School of Management to expand his career options. With his new knowledge, hard work, and dedication Ross spearheaded the development of Sage & Needle.

You may hear Ross answering phone calls or see him assisting with treatment set ups.  With his extensive medical background, he is a big proponent of evidence-based medicine and is dedicated to bringing that to the practice. You can always find him reading, watching educational YouTube channels, or listening to podcasts. He has an insatiable appetite for information and truly loves learning.
